CIPE Regional Office recently initiated the third stage of its training-of-trainers program, which consists of four local workshops, which are to be held in each of the four countries that are represented by the participants in the program: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Serbia.
The local workshops were meant to allow the participants to make the transition from being practitioners in a certain sector to being able to cross the boundaries of their own field and facilitate sessions on a variety of business association management topics, for various sectors. Moreover, the seminars seek to address the needs of local business support organizations.
Two workshops were held in Yerevan, Armenia.
The first workshop was held in Yerevan, Armenia on June 24, 2010, and was organized in cooperation with CIPE’s Armenian partner, the Association for Foreign Investment Cooperation (AFIC). CIPE Regional Office Deputy Director Carmen Stanila took part in the workshop as an observer. She has also provided customized feedback with regards to each presentation and assisted each participant with the preparation of their materials and presentations.
The second workshop was held on October 15, 2010, and was organized in cooperation with CIPE’s Armenian partner, the Yerevan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Natalia Otel-Belan (CIPE Project Officer, Eastern Europe and Eurasia) took part in the workshop as an observer. She also provided customized feedback with regards to each presentation and assisted each participant with the preparation of their materials and presentations. Andrew Wilson (CIPE Regional Director, Eastern Europe and Eurasia) was present at the workshop, as well.
Four new trainers who have successfully completed the previous two stages of the program gave presentations and engaged the audience in exercises and vivid discussions on the role of business associations in Armenia, strategic planning, marketing of program and services, communication and advocacy.
Each presenter was invited to choose a business association management topic beforehand and to deliver a presentation in front of their guests. The audience included over 25 participants, including the presenters’ peers, as well as guests from various Armenian business associations.
The presenters and the titles of the presentations that they have delivered are as follows:
• Abraham Artashesyan, Project Manager, Communities Finance Officers Association - Association Structure and Governance
• Narine Mailyan, Chief Executive Officer, Foundation for Small and Medium Businesses – Advocacy as a Tool for Social Change
• Diana Sargsyan, General Secretary, Association of Armenian Freight Forwarders - The Role of Business Associations in Armenian Context
• Vahan Hovsepyan, Management Advisor, Union of Information Technology Enterprises – Successful Advocacy Campaigns
All presentations and the corresponding materials were offered in Armenian. After each presentation, time was allotted to discussions between the participants. Finally, the participants were given the opportunity to evaluate each presenter by filling out evaluation forms. The participants’ feedback is useful for two reasons: it helps the presenters improve their presentation skills and it gives CIPE a clearer idea of the presenters’ progress.
