CIPE Regional Office recently initiated the third stage of its training-of-trainers program, which consists of four local workshops, which are to be held in each of the four countries that are represented by the participants in the program: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Serbia.
The local workshops are meant to allow the participants to make the transition from being practitioners in a certain sector to being able to cross the boundaries of their own field and facilitate sessions on a variety of business association management topics, for various sectors. Moreover, the seminars seek to address the needs of local business support organizations.
The first of the four workshops was held in Baku, Azerbaijan on June 3, 2010, and was organized in cooperation with CIPE’s Azeri partner, the Entrepreneurship Development Foundation (EDF). Six new trainers, who have successfully completed the previous two stages of the program, gave presentations and engaged the audience in exercises and vivid discussions on the role of business associations in Azerbaijan, strategic planning, marketing of program and services, communication and advocacy.

Each of the six presenters was invited to choose a business association management topic beforehand and to deliver a presentation in front of their guests. The audience included the presenters’ peers, as well as guests from other Azeri business associations. CIPE Regional Office Deputy Director Carmen Stanila took part in the workshop as an observer. She has also provided customized feedback with regards to each presentation and assisted each participant with the preparation of their materials and presentations.
The presenters and the topics that they have selected for their presentations are as follows:
• Irada Eyvazova, Information Officer, Entrepreneurship Development Foundation - The Role of Business Associations
• Jhale Hajiyeva, Executive Director, Azerbaijan Micro-finance Association - Membership Retention
• Konul Agayeva, Executive Director, Digital Development - Designing and Marketing of Programs and Services
• Kenan Aslanli, Head of Economic Projects and Research Division, Azerbaijan-Turkey Business Association - The Process of Strategic Planning in Business Associations
• Vusala Garayeva, Network Coordinator, Azerbaijan Micro-finance Association - Communication tools
• Razi Nurullayev, Co-Chairman, Society of Democratic Reforms - Communication in advocacy

All presentations and the corresponding materials were offered in Azeri. After each presentation, time was allotted to discussions between the participants. Finally, the participants were given the opportunity to evaluate each of the six presenters by filling out evaluation forms. The participants’ feedback is useful for two reasons: it helps the presenters improve their presentation skills and it gives CIPE a clearer idea of the presenters’ progress.
