CIPE Regional Office was recently present at a two-day event of Women’s Alliance of Business Associations in Zimbabwe (WABAZ). The purpose of the event was to decide on the internal organization of the alliance, as well as to establish a code of conduct for the newly-created WABAZ.
The alliance comprises ten leading women business support organizations and aims to empower women in the business sector, by promoting dialogue, advocacy, networking and information sharing. WABAZ represents the first women business coalition in Zimbabwe and its main purpose is to work with government on securing equality for women engaged in business activities.
CIPE Regional Office Deputy Director Carmen Stanila delivered a presentation focusing on CIPE’s experience in working with coalitions. The presentation highlighted practical examples and some of the most important success stories and lessons learnt from coalitions and networks supported by CIPE. Stanila and CIPE Senior Program Officer for Africa Lars Benson jointly facilitated the working sessions following the presentation.
Ms. Rita Mutinhiri, Director for Women Affairs within the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community and Development gave opening remarks and expressed her support for the alliance. The event was attended by representatives of each member organization. The event took place in Kadoma and was organized by CIPE and the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce,
CIPE will continue to support the activity of the alliance in the future.
