CIPE and the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives (IDSI) held a one-day workshop with 25 representatives of Moldovan business organizations to discuss how to institutionalize the public-private dialogue that promotes pro-business reforms through the National Business Agenda.
At this event, CIPE Program Director Camelia Bulat discussed with participants strengths and weaknesses of formal and informal advocacy coalitions. CIPE Program Officer for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Natalia Otel Belan presented various coalition models under CIPE programs in Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Belarus.
Topics for discussion included the role of the Moldovan NBA in sustaining a public-private dialogue in Moldova, the key elements of an advocacy network/coalition/alliance, CIPE’s experience in consolidating networks, coalitions and alliances. Last but not least, Bulat and Tatiana Lariushin, Senior Economist at IDSI, facilitated discussions on how to construct a support networks for the Moldovan NBA.
One of the highlights of this organizational development seminar was the section dedicated to the sustainability of the public-private dialogue through the NBA. The discussions addressed the modus operandi of the structure that supports the NBA, rather than the reforms and ideas put forward in the NBA. The participants started to discuss their participation in building the advocacy platform for the Moldovan NBA.
The workshop participants exchanged views on possible institutional models for the Moldovan network of business associations and agreed to continue the coalition-building process in the next few months.
This is only the beginning of an effort to strengthen the business advocacy network in Moldova with higher participation of all members. In the future, under IDSI leadership, the members will put together a plan for how to structure the network in order to respond to the Moldovan context.
