RCOM Invited to Provide Advocacy Training to the Macedonian Chamber for Information and Communication Technology (MASIT)

RCOM was recently invited to provide expertise during a workshop organized by USAID/World Learning for the Macedonian Chamber of Information and Communication Technology on September 25 - 27, 2009 in Ohrid, Macedonia.

The goal of this workshop (“Workshop in Advocacy and Lobbying for the Macedonian Chamber for Information and Communication Technology – MASIT”) was to increase understanding of policy-making and cooperation among the participants and the institutions they work with. More specifically, the workshop was meant to teach the participants the skills to develop, manage, and undertake an advocacy and lobbying effort that incorporates specific methods and event options.

RCOM consultant Corina Dragomirescu used theoretical and practical resources to introduce the participants to various levels of advocacy and lobbying and the context in which they may be effectively applied. The Board members and executive team were exposed to a mix of lectures, exercises and discussions that actually gave them the possibility to start putting those principles into actions, with the consultant’s facilitation.

Dragomirescu shared best practices, successes and failures, and also engaged the participants in discussions and analyses of the advocacy process, with an emphasis on the advocacy campaign, communication in advocacy, and the development of position papers.
Although this is only a first step that needs to be followed by additional workshops in the future, the participants are now better equipped to conduct more effective policy advocacy. The  ideas and resources they were exposed to during the workshop will improve their work to influence public officials, state authorities and institutions.

RCOM has considerable experience providing training to organizations in the ITC sector, its most notable contributions in this area being the projects “Enhancing the Competitiveness of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Sector in Romania and Ukraine” (2008) and “Enhancing Information and Communication Technology Competitiveness Project in Bosnia Herzegovina” (2008), that were developed with funding from the World Bank Institute.
