“The ICT sector is one of the most dynamic and competitive within the Romanian economy. The vivacity of this industry is the result of the public-private partnership, a fortunate combination of entrepreneurial, hard-working, dedicated, knowledgeable business people, and visionary, supportive public officials.”, declares Gheorghe Serban, Executive Director of the National Association of Internet Service Providers.
The CD is part of a World Bank Institute project focusing on strengthening the competitiveness of the ICT sectors in Romanian and Ukraine. “Romania is seen as a country that has made remarkable progress in developing and implementing public policies aiming at the development of the ICT sector, an example that could be followed by the countries in the region. Together with the representative associations in the sector we have selected few of these public policies: liberalization of the communications market, zero tax on salary for the software developers, software leasing, online tax payments, subsidies for PC procurement for students. This CD was designed as an example, but also as a form of praise for the efforts that both public authorities and the associations have put in the development of the Romanian ICT sector.” states Camelia Bulat, Executive Director of the RCOM.
At the launching event will be present the business associations members of the Tech 21 Coalition, one of the instruments used by the sector in the dialogue with the public authorities. Representatives of prominent Ukrainian ICT business associations will also participate. Guest speakers will be Zoltan Somodi and Constantin Teodorescu, Secretaries of State within the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, and Costin Lianu, General Director of the Trade Promotion Department within the Ministry for SMEs, Commerce, Tourism and Liberal Professions.
The event will take place on June 12, 2008, between 10.30-12.00 at Grand Café Galleron.
The Regional Center for Organization Management is a Romanian foundation established by Center for International Private Enterprise as a mean to continue its support programs for business associations development in the Balkan region and Eastern Europe. RCOM created a intensive training program dedicated to the employees and volunteers of business associations, chambers of commerce and other membership-based organizations from the Balkan region and Eurasia. This program structured under the name Regional Institute for Organization Management offers a coherent training base for the persons involved in the associations’ sector from the region. The program has been delivered up until now in Romania, Serbia and Bosnia Herzegovina and will continue with Armenia and Adzerbaijan.
RCOM has collaborated with World Bank Institute in a project focused on strengthening the competitiveness of the Romanian and Ukrainian ICT sectors, being in charge of disseminating the Romanian experience through workshops, video-conferences and the CD “Public Policies with an Impact on the Romanian ICT Sector”. RCOM is also involved in another WBI project that aims to improve the capacities of Bosnian business associations in using public-private dialugue mechanisms.
